Big Heart Poem by Coletha Albert

Big Heart

I have a big heart and that is why
I feel what you feel and I cry when you cry
I know when blinding joy is bursting inside
I know when your misery makes you want to die

I have a big heart and that is why
I celebrate with you at your big surprise
When you win the race I am winning too
And I go through all that you go through

I have a big heart and I want life for you
The freedom to be whomever you choose
The knowledge to know all you can know
To see you bloom, blossom, expand and grow

I have a big heart and that is why
I can't feel myself dying inside
I don't know who I am or what I should do
I don't know myself because I am feeling you

I wish you could feel me too…
Because I don't know if I am black or blue
I can't feel it when I am going through
There is just an ache can you feel it too
Am I all alone? Who sees the shade of my doom?
I wish I felt me like I feel you But my heart is too small
For both of our blues
All of our reds and purples too
All of the oranges and yellows so true
False of me to even lie And hide the ugly truth inside
That I know you more than I know me it makes me cry
I know I sound strange, strange to you
But it's okay because I am strange to me too
Because I have a big heart and that is why…
