Beyond Poem by Elaine Battersby

Beyond

Did you hear my words.
Not just the words,
But the meaning,
The story, the love
The pain.
Can you hear them.

Birds singing in the trees
Can you hear them.
Not just the sound,
But their song, their harmony.
Can you hear them.

The trees in the forest, can you see them.
Not their size, but their grace
Their beauty, form and texture
Their history.
Can you see them.

The old man walking down the street,
With stick and faded form.
Body bent, but spirit strong.
Can you see him.
Acknowledge him.

People walking in the street.
Sitting on the train,
Can you see them.
Not just their bodies.
Their being, their energy.
Can you see them.

You, do you know you.
Not just your face,
Where you live, or what you do.
But your spirit, your wisdom
Please, Know you.
