Betelgeuse Poem by Maurice Rowlands

Betelgeuse

Beautiful girl dressed in red
Proud because we are watching you

“I am the only one here, that you can see! ”

Don’t be so vain, Princess

But yes, to me
You’re the prettiest thing
In the sky

“My sisters are far and wide, and beside
I am dressed in the deepest red
My bed
Is on a blanket of the blackest black”

“Hey come back! ”

I’m still here!
I can see you
On your throne way up high

Betelgeuse!
I assure you
You’re the prettiest thing
In the sky
