Best friend vs. Boyfriend

Becky.
Steve.
Both normal names.

Girl.
Boy.
Both beautiful in my eyes.

Grouch and not outgoing.
Funny and spontaneous.
Both smart Straight A students.

Quite Predictable.
Highly Unpredictable.
Both strongly Independent.

Been in my life for almost eight years.
Been in my life for almost three months.
Both trustworthy.

Rocker chic.
Straight up G.
I can talk to both of them about absolutely everything.

Becky can be there for me when I’m having trouble with Steve.
Steve can be there for me when I’m having trouble with Becky.

Both friends, both companions, and both a present help in my time of need.

A best friend of the same gender, in contrast with the boyfriend, would seem to be the better choice.
But Steve has showed me more reasons to trust him in the past three months, than Becky has over the past eight years... hmmmm
