Bennetts Patch Poem by Alison Gaff

Bennetts Patch

We think of natures havens
To be a tranquil place,
With just the noise of nature
And a quiet, pleasant space.

But there's Portway traffic to one side
And a train track to the other,
With all that noise you may well think...
Is it really worth the bother!

But nature needs the little spaces
Where birds and plants can thrive.
Its not that big but very rich,
And helps nature to survive.

This place I love is Bennets Patch,
With trees and ponds and flowers.
Easy to use for a quick walk
Or you can explore for hours.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Bennetts Patch is a small nature reserve and as the poem states its
wedged between a very busy road and a railway. It is part of the Avon Gorge. The Portway is one of he main roads into Bistol. The reserve was acquired just 3 or 4 years ago, so it is quite a young reserve which with the help of the volunteers can only grow and mature.
