Being Realistic Poem by RoseAnn V. Shawiak

Being Realistic

A brilliant peace settled within, a calmness recognized as
that of God's.

A lovely lady, refined, gentle, a beautiful smile, sits in
an atmosphere of quiet resignation, awaiting the inevitable
outcome of life with little sorrow.

Realistic, ready to meet the day, a whispering hope and
prayer held closely to her heart.

Open, honest, all-encompassing faith spread throughout her
family, yet touching others who walk into her life right
now.

A flowering of her life's roses, ending in a bouquet,
placed before the altar in readiness of God's grace.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Inspired by a Hospice patient knowing the end was near and accepting it with the grace of God within her. Surrounded by her family, friends and this hospice volunteer. Having given her a copy of this poem, she read it, smiled and hugged me saying this is exactly what is happening, thank you for expressing what I could not to my family. Tears were flowing freely as they all hugged and prepared to say their heartfelt goodbyes to someone they had loved their entire lives.

They had finally set aside their selfish desires, realizing that she would not be able to hold on any longer. She died a very peaceful natural death surrounded by those she loved. So glad I was able to share in a poem a uniting of this family for her.
