Being A Mother Poem by Srivinay Salian

Being A Mother

The whole of you is a part of me
Yet without you, there is no me
You’ve been nurtured in my shadow
You, dear, are a reflection of me

Time led you away from me
So you can shape your destiny
I prayed the world for you
Yet, letting you go, killed me

I stare now at the empty room
Quietly, shedding tears of gloom
Passing through the mundane days
Waiting for your return, my bloom

Go flap yours wings, win the sky
I will crumble, but will not sigh
Let not my heart come in your way
Am a mother, I will comply
