Behind Wall Street. Nieuw Amsterdam, On The Island Of Manna-Hatta In Nieuw Nederland Poem by Chris Lane

Behind Wall Street. Nieuw Amsterdam, On The Island Of Manna-Hatta In Nieuw Nederland

In Nieuw Nederland, on Manna-hatta
arose Nieuw Amsterdam
By a Buttonwood grove
A Fur Trading outpost, commodities were bought, sold or exchanged.

Nieuw Amsterdam, on the island of Manna-hatta in Nieuw Nederland
And The Halve Maen sailed, foul or fair the breeze that blew -

To the North a wall was built to secure from invasion
Yet when the assault came, it came not by land,
it came by way of the Sea.
New traders came and changed the name
The Duke of York being the Royal Honoree.

Nieuw Amsterdam became New York
until later on in time, when in July 26th 1788
Rose: The Empire State,
wherein to this day, stock is sold, traded or exchanged.
