Behind That Pretty Smile Poem by Elorm Dogbo

Behind That Pretty Smile

Allies or foes,
Which are you
Behind that pretty smile?
Who would be brave
To come out of the cave
Tell me you dislike me
Or some things I’ve been doing.
It is heart breaking
To see you hiding
Behind that pretty smile
If it is not from your heart.

I thought it was well
Unknown I was in hell
I am not an idol
Why do you idle
And not confronting me
Do you fear me?
Or I am a colonial governor.
Don’t share my laughter
Because you do not mean it
Like the cabinet of Amin.
Can you swear
That you will share
Your worries to me
Like I have been doing.

I would know
If you had told
That I hurt you the last time
When I came passing by.

Consider me,
In your decisions of tomorrow
Forgive me,
If I have caused you sorrow
Give me,
When I come to you to borrow
Add me,
To your daily prayer
Help me,
So that I do not suffer
Don’t betray me,
Like after the last supper
Tell me,
If I have done you wrong
Don’t keep me,
In your vengeance for long
And call me,
To sing the choruses of your song.

I hope the next grin,
Would have nothing in it hidden.
