Behind Me, Hope. Poem by Jodie Louise Pollock

Behind Me, Hope.

Choking while she stands staring,
Feeling her gaze but unable to stop,
Swallowing back,
But unable to drop,

Eyes unfold my very own dream,
Lost around her, drowning her in,
Slowly shrinking,
Willpower so thin,
Gone inside,
Light so dim,

Listening, but not totally understanding,
Standing back,
Keeping quiet,
Thoughts running through my mind,
Maybe I’m just too far behind.
