Before It Happens Poem by Tirupathi Chandrupatla

Before It Happens

I was born the year
World War II ended
Putting away lives
Of over sixty million

In just six years
And setting many others
Homeless and desolate
On a journey to nowhere.

War is an avoidable
Means to exert power
Always it results in
Colossal losses of lives,

Commerce and heritage,
Breaking all bridges, dams,
Roads, and depleting resources
Cutting all means to exist.

There's always a way
To find a reason for war
Weapons of mass destruction
Or some secret developments

As in the story we heard
The wolf drinking upstream
Accused lamb of muddling the water
And found a reason to kill.

We have many instances
How wars got started
And turned into unstoppable
Acts of annihilation.

We study history deeply
To know how things went wrong
Can we then find a way
Not to allow it to happen again?

War always leaves a trail of destruction, killing many and making many homeless and destitute! Unfortunately war has been there from time immemorial and will continue to be there as long as man is pugnacious! We can only dream of peace, just a rosy dream!
