Beethoven's Dream Poem by Saiom Shriver

Beethoven's Dream

Beethoven once dreamt that the orchestra pieces
playing his symphony were fighting.... a metaphor
for humanity in a world designed by God to be perfect.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Schumann On His Music (paraphrased)

Schumann said he had a series of painful explosions in his ears, after which he began to hear angelic music. He said he was merely an amanuensis, a secretary, writing down what he heard.

Beethoven:

Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy, it is the wine of a new procreation, and I am Bacchus who presses out this glorious wine for men and makes them drunk with the spirit.
