Beautiful Maze Poem by Garry Stanton

Beautiful Maze

Cannot remember when I got the word
Saying it would soon be over
The way was clear for destiny
To drive the flaming engine

She came upon the desert breeze
And the wind cried like a lost lamb
Led me to the water I had to drink
As Heaven fell, black and charred

All the love I could have given
Walled up in a cave
by myth and prejudice.
Lightning cannot strike me
Metal cannot smite me
Only the maze

Of a woman's heart

Cannot remember when I heard the call
The news that meant the end
Just when my humanity had started to flow
The urge of procreation

She came in the breeze of a veil
Perfumed. She cried beneath the wind.
I was unable to sleep, unable to wake, or die
Anyway.

She led me to the water I had to drink
Washed my face, my body until I gleamed
The end of this rainbow was found at the start
The end of something that could never begin

All the love we could have given
Walled up forever
An outcast at the cross.
But lightning cannot strike me
Metal may not smite me
Only the beautiful maze
of a woman's heart.

She came on the sweet gorse breezes,
of a veil
Perfumed. She cried beneath the wind.
I was unable to sleep, unable to wake, or die
Anyway.

I could not sleep, awake forever
I cannot sleep, awake forever
In a universe of Pain.
