Bangladesh, My Country Poem by Zillur Rahman Shuvro

Bangladesh, My Country

March 7,1971 at Race Course Ground-
The great leader Sheik Mujibur Rahman
Announced in thunder voice, " This war is for war of liberation."
At once his voice spread out all over the country like
The flashes of lighting and the wood on fire!
The war started against the olive colored Tanks and
Took part students, teachers, farmers, labors, young, old,
Housewives, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, Christian and all!
Thousands and thousands houses burnt to ashes, culverts
And bridges collapsed, many women raped and about three million people
Sacrificed their lives including my father- - who was under treatment
At Rajshahi Medical College Hospital; He escaped away from the hospital
And died in our village without doctor and medicine!
Massacre was nonstop continuing. The world was divided. August 1,1971
At Madison Square Garden, New York- -George Harrison, Bob Dylan,
Ravi Shankar, Ringo Starr and a lot of prominent figures arranged
"The Concert for Bangladesh" and they helped to make world public
Sentiment against the genocide!
December 16,1971 again at Race Course Ground- -
After surrendering of Pak Army a new baby named ‘Bangladesh'
Was born in the history and in the colorful map of the world!
A ruined and hungry country! No food, no clothes, no shoes,
No milk, no houses, no offices, no schools. Cry of distress is everywhere.
Henry Kissinger commented on Bangladesh as a bottomless basket
And from then Bangladesh was changing day by day.
Now Bangladesh is roaring like Bay of Bengal
Now Bangladesh is roaring like Royal Bengal Tiger.
Billions dollar are being earned from garments sector and the outgoing labors.
Bangladesh boasts of largest sea beach like Cox's Bazar, largest
Mangrove forest like Sundarban and world famous personality like Muhammad Yunus
Bangladesh is my brain. She's my eyes, she's my chest and she's my liver
I love her! I love her and I love her!
