Back-Alley Street Poem by Jeremy Rodgers

Back-Alley Street

In back-alley street
where every alley meets
in every corner of the world
everybody's popping pills.
Why take drugs when you could love?
Why destroy the temple of God?
These are the battle fields
so they dope you up so you can't feel
so you can't tell what is real
but this is real, this is real
these are the battlefields.
In 'Charlie Brown, ' a Coldplay song,
we still glow in the dark
with broken hearts, broken hearts
forever in the dark
with broken hearts.
Let us shine,
let us see
take the needles
out of our veins
and pray
and escape
back-alley street.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
After hearing the song, 'Charlie Brown' by Coldplay it reminded me how so many people are breaking their hearts doing drugs and other awful things. And most of it is because they have broken hearts. People need to turn to God and have Him #1 in their life. That's what this poem is about. I mean no disrespect to the band Coldplay. I think their song portrays the problem very well and most likely goes against it. I also respect their fight against certain falling kingdoms of greed. Somebody's got to do it and there are so few of us out there. Let's preach this upon the housetops 'till everybody hears or until our heads end up on silver plates.
