Away From The Caged City Life Poem by Amitava Sur

Away From The Caged City Life

Rating: 5.0

Flying away to a far distant place
From this so called fast city life with noise

Now resting in the cool and quiet shadow
Under a big oak tree.

Smelling the village's wet soil
And enjoying the mild breeze-
Blowing mildly over the green paddy field
Waving and kissing them.

A mesmerizing rustic beauty
Persists all around,
So virgin and serene it is
Comforting to heart and mind.

I walk through the orchard
With grape vines, around me,

Singing birds and falling leaves
With flying butterflies on their colorful wings! !

Away from the crowded city life,
With noise of horns and smoke.

Away from the selfish people, including me
With full of unending desires and egos

The whole city being strangled and choked
With asphalt- roads, wires and jungle of high rises.

I am far far away now,
From the curse of the city's stink.

Lying down on lush green grass
Under the unending blue sky.

Enjoying the warmth of mother earth
Lying quietly in her lap.

What a beautifully soothing poem this is! Your imagery of nature is superb, I feel like I am seeing what you see, walking through the scattered leaves, tasting grapes from the grape vine. Watching the butterflies while lying down on the lush green grass in mother nature's lap. Absolutely divine poem, Amitava! 10 - 10's for this one! Amazing calming effect on my soul. Thank you for sharing, RoseAnn

What a peaceful, calming poem. Cities have their purpose, and the noise and the action help us forget things we don't want to remember. But when we're seeking peace, and connection with deep inner feelings, then the countryside is the place to go. An enjoyable read.

I am now resting under the peaceful and cool shadow Of a big oak tree. Very nice affection for natural beauty. Nice message comes from this poem is that you all love nature. City life too clumsy and this is necessary to take care of trees. Wonderful poem shared.

Lying down on lush green grass Under the unending blue sky. Enjoying the warmth of mother earth Lying quietly in her lap. Let it be so truly - spiritually and physically. I wish it were the case with me, but the reality is: I am caged in a metropolitan maze, and I've no hope of an imminent escape. what about you, poet?

Beautiful poem with fantastic lines...... Enjoying the warmth of mother earth Lying quietly in her lap. Natures beauty very well painted. Loved reading each lines. Very true said, village is free from pollution and free from caged life as we often find in cities. While village life is cool and calm.

Tagore described the dense city as brick over brick, although the densely populated city provides livelihood to millions but at last a tired soul goes to place of natural beauty in search of peace whereat nature welcomes him with her loving arms. A sweet and beautiful poem from from Amitava's loving heart! .................10

Thank you for sharing this peaceful village environment of rural Bengal still existing today away from pollutions. Your poem reminded me the serenity of my Bengali village where I grew up and go to visit whenever I get an opportunity. I felt homesick.
