Autumn Surrender - Poem by Dilantha Gunawardana

Autumn tears
Dissolve residual hope
As the color of love
Fades in sodden fogs of time

Ink of the heart
Narrates her yesteryear
In somnolent memories
As fatigue sings her anthem
To the tune of a banshee

A white flag flutters
Hoisted by palms of melancholia
As chilly winter winds subjugate
The spirit of the soul

Heart relinquishes all longings
As she placates to the decree of fate
Never to love in body nor in soul
