Autumn Paradise Poem by Kevin Patrick

Autumn Paradise

Rating: 5.0

Fall’s arrived in autumn’s fashion
And the senior floras
Graduated
Wearing the collegiate insignias
Of scarlet and gold
...

(Plus a little hazelnut
interwove)

Then, when the season drafts pickup
Leaflets flutter freely like
Paper birds
Leaving the trees for their own Destiney
Like salmon of the ground

Still there’s a calm, to this overripe Eden
The fields and the meadows
Are kaleidoscope
Cathedrals

That I realize
And the cluster of trees
Look like brush stroked
Acrylics
As if my eyes are a
Portrait of some Gods
Impressionist statement

It’s when I’m walking
Down the driveway
And I see each maple
Is its own Boutique
And the earth
is a Seascape tapestry
of antique colors

October is a keyhole
In heavens backyard

For now is the season of
Waltzing pulchritude

And I know if I were to die
Seeing the world beyond the light
It would lead me into
An Autumn Paradise

Land salmon and overripe Eden....I am reminded of Heaney. Your work has always been amazing... but it just does get better and better.

What a lovely poem about Autumn's beauty and allure. But what stands out is this phrase: October is a keyhole in heaven's backyard. We can peek through this keyhole and catch a glimpse of the heaven that lies beyond. Without a doubt, Autumn is one of Nature's finest gifts, wrapped in ribbons of dazzling color. I truly enjoyed reading this fine poem.
