Autumn Beauty Poem by Elaine Battersby

Autumn Beauty

You autumn beauty, with your patchwork coat of
red, green and gold, such elegance.
Your rich tapestry of golden splendour,
brightens our grey streets.
Decorating the parks and woodlands,
with panache and finery.
My eyes are feasted by your brilliance.
Like an artist's pallet, your mix of colours,
creates the finest of masters.
Bold, yet soft and caressing,
you carpet the landscape,
with such richness and luxury,
Birds and woodlands creatures,
feast on your lush red berries.
Before the winds and rain of winter,
wash away your essence.
And robs us of your riches and shining light.
Leaving us with a cold and barren landscape.
Hungry, for the awaking of the new fresh,
green shoots of spring,
Daffodils and candy floss trees, bringing life
and colour to our parks and avenues again.
