Autumn Poem by Della Hodgson James

Autumn

Rating: 5.0

Autumn again is here
Beautiful Autumn!
The best time of the year
Beautiful Autumn!
With the earth bedecked and bright
A gorgeous, gladsome sight,
And summer on flight
Beautiful Autumn!
The sweet gums gaily dressed
Glourious Autumn!
The sumac scarlet crest
Glorious Autumn!
Hickories in golden glory
Presents the same old story,
Of frosts, soon so white and hoary
Glorious Autumn!

Gay flowers brightly arrayed
Lovely Autumn!
Waiting to be displayed
Lovely Autumn!
With dewy laden hearts
Natural works of art,
And courage to impart
Lovely Autumn!

With many a striking hue
In Autumn!
With cheer for me and you
In Autumn!
Waiting with patience, by
Waiting with ne'er a sigh,
Waiting to say good-by
In Autumn!

Some celebration grand
In Autumn!
Seems to be near at hand
In Autumn!
The leaves impatiently hang
Their rustling song they sing,
But they only slightly cling
In Autumn!

The birds all flock together
In Autumn!
Warning us of colder weather
In Autumn!
Then they go winging south
Toward the wide Mississippi's mouth,
Where there's warm winds, and drought
In Autumn.
