Auctioning In Hamlets Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Auctioning In Hamlets

"Going once, going twice, sold! "
The auctioneer yelled at the crowd
and threw the folded bed-sheet
on the lap of the highest bidder,
squatting on the ground to take.
"Caught my in-law! ", someone laughed aloud.
The man who got commissions many times
by bidding until the second warning
and escaped from buying things
was looking at the material with awe.
His wife came there soon
shouting at her innocent hubby:
"Don't come to the house. Leave this village".
The fellow wrapped it around her
and begged for some money.
