Asylum Poem by David Wood

Asylum

Rating: 5.0

Endless fighting
Nowhere to turn
Frightening shadows
Food shortages

Barrel bombs falling
Houses shattered
Schools demolished
No medical supplies

Pain of torture
Seeking escape
Looking for refuge
Feeling desolate

Desperately paying
Being trafficked
Hunger and strife
All at sea

Rescued at last
Moments of peace
Arrived in Europe
Unwelcomed

How can you sum up the plight of refugees fleeing persecution, their feelings and emotions?
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Why does there need to be the sort of thing? I think now it becomes a contest until someone cracks. We need to help these people. Again we leave it until babies die and hearts are broken. I' m with you.

A very intense and vivid picture of the chaos going on, refugees fleeing their own countries, scared, terrified, not knowing from one moment to the next what will happen to them. Their moments of peace quickly disappear when discovering they are not welcome in another country where they had hoped would give them a reprieve from the violence they have left. Extremely well stated situations, I commend you for such an excellent poem depicting the horror of evil. Thank you for sharing, RoseAnn.
