Astronaut Poem by Sergio Savioli

Astronaut

ASTRONAUT

the vast endless openness of space
is a completely different sort of place
where like celestial bodies we go through
its fathomless forever kind of deepest darkest blue
if there isn't quite enough oxygen for the occasion
then take a quick decision without hesitation
because re-entry brings a vast limitless tristesse
above all you have to face an enormous loneliness
the occurrence of severe wounding notwithstanding
i can only hope and pray for a smooth safe landing

do i tell people i have been in space
i don't need to put on that kind of face
i don't have a feeling that i am special
i'm a normal person now albeit quite spatial
