As We Sail.... Poem by Hazel Durham

As We Sail....

Rating: 5.0

Knock, knock open the door
To my scary heart,
You're my best part,
My tormented mind
Is easy to find,
Even on these sun filled days,
I'm suffering under the sun's mighty rays,
Slings of abusive words haunt me,
As I try to make them vanish in this beautiful month of May,
Leaving a rocky road of destruction,
Along this much travelled way,
You have become my rock,
In a hostile world,
Enemies ready to attack,
Keeping me a prisoner as I'm always ready to pack,
To escape to a peaceful place,
But my heart has been struck by your bolt of love,
As i run in my mad solo race,
To be your number one as you define me as a human,
Like out stepping me at my own pace,
You hold the candle of hope,
With your wise eyes stripping away my past,
Like a tornado that fast,
As we sail on a tranquil ocean,
With white sails attached to our unbreakable mast.

I like the blending of contrasts in this poem: it starts in a sad, melancholic mood, and it triumphs with jocundity!
