As We March To Drum ‘and’ Bass Poem by Darren Harris

As We March To Drum ‘and’ Bass

As we march on to the battle field,
All in synchronised steps of war,
Remembering the chants we sang,
In the training we’d done before,

Straight into the action,
Frontline soldiers we proudly are,
Fighting for our country,
Left with wounds that leave us scarred,

As we cross no-mans land,
Dead bodies lying all around,
The bass line of the bombs,
As they repeatedly hit the ground,

Like being in a night club,
Filled with drum and bass,
But this is the music,
That kills the human race,

As we listen to the music,
We compose some of our own,
Having the same effect on the opposition,
Just wishing to go home,

Why can’t we put a stop to this?
A game that could be apocalyptic,
And join together in harmony,
And be more optimistic,

But until that day eventually comes,
I’ll fight for this country of mine,
Listening for the music,
Of the dreadful drum ‘n’ bass line.
