As The Years Fly Poem by Ruth L. Rivers

As The Years Fly

Rating: 5.0

How quickly have you grown
My now embraced sleeping one
Your eyelids closed with silence
Your breath steadied by my love

Nestled so closely to me
Warmth of soul to soul
Your dreams now rest easily
My baby grown a bit old

When did the gentle infant
Turn into this sleeping child?
When did my cooing wonder
Turn into a toothy smile?

Your legs now sure and steady
Carry you quickly over floors
The hands once so very fragile
Now throw open blocked doors

Over night you have lengthened
Over day have you achieved
Small miracles of childhood
Little amazing acts and feats

Taller now than ever before
Your limbs graced with ease
Though you’re my growing child
You’ll forever by my baby
