Are We Really Free? Poem by Mohammad Akmal Nazir

Are We Really Free?

Rating: 4.3

Freedom, a state of mind,
Freedom, an illusion,
Freedom, a nonsense of lunatic
Until it is spiritual.
As long as we are slaves of
Our petty self-interests,
Our prejudice,
And our false ego,
We are not free.
We may celebrate the festival of freedom Hundred times,
We are still slaves.
The Independence Day marks
Material freedom
not
the spiritual one.
Unless we are spiritually free,
We are like sheep devoid of sentiments.

Are we really free? One is free if one feels free. Freedom is within us. Yes, very spiritual. Nice work. Thanks for sharing this one.

Of course, we're free physically but are slave metally and spiritually. Freedom is worse for those who don't have ability to use it properly because it may make then astray if they are not governed by spirital laws. Nice poem.

Difference of opinion in the ideas on freedom. Freedom in material sense and spiritual sense must co exist and otherwise there will be problems in thoughts of worldly outlook. The material uplift of human being can't be seen immaterial as long as humans exist. Here in good sense the poet highlights spiritual freedom and likes.

A really thought provoking excercise. e have log way to materially and to shed ego and attain spiritual freedom is but a utopian idea. A nicely balanced write. Hats off, Akmal.

This is absolutely true and to the point poem. I loved the line 'Freedom, a nonsense of lunatic'.... I also, feel India as a country has not yet gained material freedom, forget the spiritual one, It's only in the paper. I feel freedom is bought and of course we need to free ourselves from stupid ego and pride which is like a dreaming a dream. Realistic and mirroring the society in its truest form.
