Arbeit Macht Frei Poem by Amanda Jackson

Arbeit Macht Frei

Those words which rested high atop the iron bars
Were said to exhibit hope.
Those words pounded into scalding metal
Embodied terror upon approach.

Those words were a death wager
With its pieces now in play.
Those words in you stirred fear
‘Til your lifeless body merged with miry clay.

Arbeit Macht Frei.
Those words were a lie.

I am somewhat partial to the concept, I must admit. However, the flow is noteworthy and delivered superbly. Commendations.
