Apple Of My Eye Poem by Bruce Johnson

Apple Of My Eye

I wandered in the desert waste,
lost and all alone,
Searching for a resting place,
longing for a home.
Then at last I heard a shout
and turned around to see
The King of glory, crying out,
'O wanderer, follow me!
I will keep you as the apple of my eye.
I will light the darkest valley;
in straight pathways I will guide.
Like an eagle I will carry you:
to my mountain we will fly.
I will lead you and keep you
as the apple of my eye.'

Great dangers face me everywhere,
and enemies surround:
Fierce lions, poised to strike and tear
and cast me to the ground.
Arise, O Lord! See my distress!
Take up your glistening sword!
Display your power and faithfulness,
as you've declared before:
'I will keep you as the apple of my eye.
No evil can come near you
while I am by your side.
Underneath my wings you need not fear;
in their shadow you will hide.
I will guard you and keep you
as the apple of my eye.'

Dear Father, please be near me-
You know I am not strong.
My soul grows parched and weary,
and the way is very long.
But great is your compassion
when your children ask for bread,
So I'll trust your love everlasting
and recall what you have said:
'I will keep you as the apple of my eye.
The rock pours forth sweet honey,
all your needs to satisfy.
Come buy water without money!
You may drink and never die!
I will feed you and keep you
as the apple of my eye.'

'I will keep you as the apple of my eye.
I will take you to your journey's end-
the Father's home on high!
From every foe I will defend;
every need I will supply.
All the way I will lead you,
at my table I will feed you,
and forever I will keep you
as the apple of my eye.'
