We Will Never be All Knowing: So Live
Stars glance at me from the veil of astronomical darkness, and human ignorance. In some places they cluster together like pimples that sit in the most annoying crevices of human symetry. They are birthstone blue and have no beauty at all. Beyond the corona of the moon flashes glittering lights these wicked, evil things that seem so tangible, so susceptible to human touch and understanding. They taunt us.
What would we do if the stars only came out once every million years? We would be delirious, and amazed by the glory of god. But instead the stars do choose to come out every night. So familiar to human behavior we engross ourselves in things that are more likely then not insignificant. We do these things that serve no purpose in improving our lives. Just more stagnant behaviour. The home that keeps these faint glittering pinpricks is described by astronomers as being deep blue versus the widely accepted black. This deep deep indescribable blue which no artist can ever replicate serves as the reason to why we will never truly be all knowing. The night sky so beautiful but so hostile. I guess we could infer that the reasoning for why so many probably will not be able to answer the question i propsed earlier is the fear of understanding. 'Of what? ' you might ask. Fear of understanding that space like stars, time, light, galaxies are inconquerable. These things that i can not even give true characteristic to because we know so little about them. They don't eat out at restaurants or go to recitals. They don't go to college or buy a home. And what saddens me the most is that They will never marvel at human achievement.
You know what scares me more then anything? it is not that space is so vast, but that we have measured it. We know tha in about 1174 years a satellite we sent out in 1977 will reach a Taurus our closest star. To put away the vulgar fear that we may never understand any of it is such a daunting task. But we must learn to rever at night as we do day. YI So-Yeon the first korean astronaut said ' I cannot live the rest of my life talking about what i did in space for 11 days'. Space; so vast so ineteresting. But we are still living breathing hummans on earth. Space flights are merely an escape it is much easier to go to mars then it is to penetrate ones own being. Maybe one we'll land on Taurus, Hyades, Alderban or Pleiades. But until then the dog needs walking and the kids are fighting.
