Any Other Name Poem by Cheryl Lynn Moyer Peele

Any Other Name

Rating: 4.5

A charred piece of bread doesn't care
if it is given the name of “toast.”
Neither does a bird pause its song
to see itself properly identified
in little Darwinian field books. A flower
will open to the sun, unseen by human eyes.
A man, however, whose particular scent
and soul are not memorable, wilts,
decomposing cell by cell, the
divine fire smothered out.

An outstanding poem from a brilliant poet. The metaphors and symbolisms speak to human experience. An excellent poem

Man can stick his fingers into water but when he removes his finger the space he created is again replaced by the water. Every space man occupies is replaced with something....but never with him. This is very good.

A philosophical revelation. There is always a tradeoff. The writing was good and the creativity was excellant. I gave it an 8 because I felt that the philosophy needed to be more expansive in definition. Some readers, may not make the connection. GW62

Thank you for inviting me to read your new poem; it is certainly a stirring piece; i agree with your intimated sentiments that Man is created a higher being and that he has the will and responsibility to sustainable life.

I found this poem quite interesting. I hope humans will also learn to be simple and free giving like the birds and flowers.
