Anticipating Relief Poem by Ibn Ali

Anticipating Relief

Waiting for release,
Anticipating relief,
It's the gaze before the blink
The gasp before the sneeze,
The smile behind the pout when lips they part to show the teeth,
That sigh, however brief,
Before the climb, so ever steep,
That expels all the doubt,
And dispels the disbelief,
That pause before the leap,
The brace before impact,
That grasp before you land,
The branch that fills your hand,
When there's more need than want,
(And circumstances dare)
It's the bursting of the dam,
The kiss two lovers share,
When abstinence was there,
It's the arching of the back,
The limbering of the limbs,
The cutting of the cord,
When she thought she couldn't bare,
It's the gathering of the clouds,
When dry knees meet scorched earth,
And parched throats pray,
For the ending of the drought,
It's the breaking of the fast,
The divide,
It's the turning of the tide,
The learning of the smile
