Anna's Victory Poem by Cory Fox

Anna's Victory

“Believe in what you see
Because my eyes have never lied
If none would hear my plea
Will this mask hold me up inside?
I’m so afraid of me”

“Failing, try as I might
To conceive how a life so neat
Turned into something bittersweet
And thus began your plight
Oh, what a dismal path we beat! ”

“Oh, how unfit the sight!
My tears in every shade of gray,
My heart as black as night,
I swear, I’ll bleach them all away
And leave me hollow white”

“Only you were the one
In whose radiance we could bask
Of whose resolve we needn’t ask
All of which will be undone
When you hide behind your mask”

“My passion is my crutch
Limping through a race I won’t win
Every life I can’t touch
Shows me just how bad my wheels spin
The world is just too much”

“Is it really so strange
To teach the world just how you see
Without fear of their apathy?
Don’t think the world can’t change
Because you are the world to me”

“If it’s the truth you say
Then how much greater is my strife
Because I’ve lost my way
And left to live a lukewarm life
Until my dying day”

“I swear it isn’t true!
Behind your mask, stare right through
Another life was made anew
Look hard, you’ll find me too
And it was all because of you”

Keep holding on…
