Ani D Poem by Lyndsey Grant

Ani D

When she spoke
Her words melted
Like velvet
And I longed to be
Just like her
So fresh and clean
So dirty and dingy
So real it stung like razor burn
Each time her snarled
Dreadlock
Brushed over her eye
I wished to see through them
Martyred pupils
Flecked irises
That reflected
So much of how I felt
Her struggle was mine
Her woes linked directly
To my chain of smoking
And catacomb of insomnia
Felt purer than time
She sang her revolution
In hymns of past
And opened my soul
To salvations dream
Free at last
Free at last
Thank God Almighty
Free at last

Felt Purer than time, I think I read the line 20 times in a row.
