    I love it. I can't really explain what but there is something very dear and precious about Andy himself. it's almost like that feeling you get after reading a book and you're in love with a character. This felt like that. (Report) Reply

    is it possible that ANDY signifies the FERTILITY of the soil in Australia...
    and CATTLE signifies the economy? ?

    and the title ANDY'S GONE WITH CATTLE means...
    the fertility of the lands of australia's gone as well as the economy's falling

    look at each line....
    i think i made some sense...heheh

    PS: the melody is really good-no it's great....
    i must agree with angela: GREAT WORDS AND FANTASTIC POEM... (Report) Reply

    A tight piece with good scansion and excellent rhyme. Can we infer that Andy is the man of the place, and that the uncle and whoever is writing the poem are too decrepit to keep order? No one would print a poem like this nowadays from a new writer, yet it vividly describes a section of society in a memorable way that 'modern' poetry does not. (Report) Reply

    Lawson was a joy to read, when studying Aussie lit, he's so well write
    the rain is falling hard here, tropical Indonesian rain, the scanned lines are fine
    Our Andy's gone to battle now
    'Gainst Drought, the red marauder;
    but Australian Soil, is still losing the battle, to erosion drought
    hard hoofed animals cattle sheep; rabbits; a rabbit proof fence was kinda neat
    raising salinity high water table still to beat
    maybe satellite grazing is the answer sport
    Drought still haunts Australia still, but Andy's spirit was never beat (Report) Reply

    Deplorable indeed when all season guy like Andy goes out leaving all on a great mission! Smooth flowing stanzas depicting the joyful nature of Andy makes the reader too feel his absence much! Nice simple poem! (Report) Reply

When the hours of Day are numbered,
And the voices of the Night
Wake the better soul, that slumbered,
To a holy, calm delight;

Ere the evening lamps are lighted,
