And Will We See Their Likes Again Poem by Francis Duggan

And Will We See Their Likes Again

From Fionn MacCumhaill to Brian Boru to O Neill and O Donnell
And right up to the glory days of the wizard Dan O Connell
These men inspired a Nation's soul their names will live forever
And will we see their likes again? far more than likely never.

The Irish People then were poor by foreigners persecuted
And many of them on the roads by legal crims uprooted
And corpses strewn in woods and fields poor victims of starvation
How come it always is the poor who suffer exploitation?

And yet their leaders gave them hope their leaders were inspiring
Parnell, Davitt, Emmett, Grattan and Tone these men were worth admiring
And they were not afraid to speak for those who suffered persecution
Despite the threat of a jail term or even execution.

And will we see their likes again? in danger they were fearless
They gave a Nation's People hope as leaders they were peerless
In Mother Ireland's tragic past they led by inspiration
And their names will live forever more as the men who made a Nation.
