And Still The Clock Beats On... Poem by Keith Yarbrough

And Still The Clock Beats On...

Rating: 5.0

I glanced beyond a mirror
Past the present to a distant scene
Of one standing beneath a waterfall
Pure and effortless it falls still
Falls with the strength, it will never give up
Remaining true to the one thing,
The one thing it was meant to do.
It reaches for the goal set before
The eyes of a wandering traveler,
Just out of reach it remains persistent
Never give up, never surrender, never look back.
The practice is down well, the sight is nothing odd
Just another day alive, one more to serve
Fell prey to the livelihood of this world
The unrelenting course of a shadow of life,
And still the clock beats on…

Should the dawn come, the welcoming will it find?
The shadows no more, the purpose gone
Yet still be held in darkness…
The young in its wake the past in its tread
All else to fallen ash has now become
The dismal beam, the silent breakthrough
Awaiting a cold and silent dreamer
Sterile in the hopes which arrived early
Against the known, push towards the stars
Release the Veil…
And still the clock beats on…
