And My Life Goes On Poem by Lora Colon

Do you wonder why petals fall from the rose,
Leaving just thorns on the stem? ;
Why do lilies bend low to the ground,
It's so out of character for them

Well, roses know when love is dying,
The petals they drop are their tears;
Flowers can sense love's fickle ways,
They can't hide their trembling fears

And the lilies have to bend down in remorse,
Their pain is just too much to bear;
Bowing their heads they pray to God,
They're begging for a love to be spared

But love will not be dictated to,
A free spirit it must remain;
Bringing unbelievable happiness.....
Or causing unbearable pain

So I just glue the petals back on,
I pick up each petal that fell;
I lift the lily, run a wire through the stem,
They look so good, no one can tell

And my life goes on, with a bit of pain,
Here and there, a touch of sorrow;
I play my part well on the stage of life,
I smile and say 'There's always tomorrow'

Eventually, I will have to face the truth,
But, for a moment I can soar to the stars,
Pretending.... until I'm hurled back down
To face earth's imprisoning bars

And my life goes on, it's a brand new day,
Another rose is starting to bloom;
And as I wait for the petals to fall,
I'll plant a lily, just in case, if there's room

    A sad tribute to how life goes on anyway, regardless of our efforts. (Report) Reply

    the underlying serenity sharpens the sadness but then plants the hope too. (Report) Reply

    HI Lora,
    A very nice write, sad but beautifully done. (10! !)
    Rose petals also fall in a last attempt to expose the pollen and increase the possibility of new young and beautiful roses to be able to grow. Love is almost the same in my eyes, sometimes when it dies you need to expose yourself in order to let new love in.
    Best wishes,
