And I Thanked… Poem by Satarupa Rudrapal

And I Thanked…

Rating: 5.0

I cursed the rain
For pouring down for hours
And flooding every corner.
I cursed the wind
For tearing through my house
And destroying all my flowers
I cursed the night
For falling like a net
And chaining me to my parlour.

Then You entered,
And I thanked the rain
For bringing you to my parlour
And I thanked the wind
Because it made you ask for cover.
And I thanked the night
Because it helped me hide my desire.
And finally,
I thanked You for holding onto me for ever.

Though not exactly a plagiarism, most of the metaphores in Rudrapal poem are boldly similar to a chinese poem by Wang Wei from the Tang dinasty. The original poem goes cursing the elements, rain, wind, etc and finally bless them when they push the loved one into the poet´s shelter.
