And Bang... Poem by Midnight Clarity

And Bang...

Birdsong swoops and stutters
in the morning air
bouncing off the ringing
in my ears;
a legacy of movie sets,
prop guns and ‘bang
you're deaf’
for quite a while.
A yawn stretches the jaw,
eyes squeezed shut,
a search for oxygen
to flood the tissues,
start the engine
of the body
firing, and bang
the day's begun.
A dream of sleep
and gentle rocking
arms enfolds me,
I should not be
awake just yet,
my day begun too soon
will have me founder
on my way into
tomorrow
asleep at the wheel
and bang
a life in pieces.

Not the way
I choose for closing
my accounts.
