Ancient Houses Old So Oft Attract The Winds Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

Ancient Houses Old So Oft Attract The Winds

Why ancient houses
Old so oft
Attract the winds of
Chill
The paling frost
The sere and cyclic
Leaves that round and
Round
Fire the earth with sound?

Ah! the faces of the
Houses
Ancient and old and
Crumbling
Burn:
For it be dusk and
Sunset is now gone
The woods
Outside the town
They tremble
They vibrate
With the thrill
Of
Nocturnal awakening
Come! Come!
The first stars are already
On the horizon
In the dun of heavens

Why ancient houses
Old so oft
Attract the winds of
Chill
The paling frost
The sere and cyclic
Leaves that round and
Round
Fire the earth with sound?
