Anatomy of a Human Face

My skin is white, pigmented.
It stretches around the skull,
Within the skull the brain.
Skin fits each skeleton feature,
And protects my blood
In vessels and vein.

Within a white bone socket
My eye ball darts and drifts
Eyebrow, above there sits.
My iris is a tinge of blue and green.
My pupil expands and shrinks.
The light travels, to optic nerve
Than back into the visual cortex, seen.

My nasal cavity, has nostrils.
The mucus gathers in sinuses.
I breath, a breath, respiratory.
I smell a scent, an aroma
It travels my olfactory bulb
To sensors in the brain.

My lips and cheeks
Hide my jaw and teeth,
And in the middle my tongue.
Mouth is what I use to eat,
To taste, as well as to breath.
My lips with muscles move
Into a frown, a smile, a gasp,
And with tongue fit sound
Into the alphabetical syllables.

My ears, like a spiral
Sit slightly between a brain.
Its another facial cavity.
It detects the sounds
That travel to the inner ear,
And across the hairs of the cochlea.

Made of keratin,
The hair upon my head,
Is colored with melanin,
Be it blond, brown, red.
It grows out from the dermis,
It conserves some thermal energy
When long and healthy.
