Analytical Poem by Shelby Barker

Analytical

This girl I know, she’s unusual and analytical
She’ll take what you say and chop it into pieces, her dictionary is on the coffee table
Etymology goes on all night ‘round here
She’s hesitant and reluctant
to what she gives or takes
Black cats and broken glass had crossed her path, But she keeps a clover in her sock And walks
It’s all right if her shoes are untied,
She’s already aware. But she won’t waste a second she can’t get back
When she can just lay them where the Welcome Mat
used to be
She sits in her closet to be alone, But doesn’t stay for long
I think it’s ‘cause there’s no windows
But when it storms she’s out on her porch,
wishing she was up there
The rain takes away her problems
The grass is her bed, her pillow
That’s the only way she can sleep
With a mirror for a ceiling
She’s Mercury, Venus, through Neptune and pluto, with a dropp of the sun and the stars. when there’s light over her eyes
she sees life in the clouds as she opens them,
Next to the Ballerina Bunny
and below the Spaceship
Make sure to smell the roses you’re giving her As an apology for what you really said, what you really meant
Remember she’s a scientist
This girl I know, she’s
Analytical,
She’s beautiful
