mother to daughter
is like
grandmother to mother: though
the same
yet something has changed.

This virtually a definition of ANALOGY using one example to stand for all examples. Are you going back to basics, defining the techniques you want to exploit and building your own tool kit for future poems? Or a tool kit for Eli when he comes of age, and asks, Dad, the life and activities of poetry fascinate me. How do I begin? What do I do first? - Well, Eli, there are many starting points. One way is to look at one thing and see something entirely different. Then ask yourself - why did my mind connect those two things? That's ANALOGY.
