An Offering Poem by Barry Middleton

An Offering

alone in misty woods
alone in the universe

and in a dreaming verse
sound is cold and dark

and all around my view
lonely stars are falling

the universe is calling
as stormy night descends

the woods are a caress
soft as a lover's kiss

still the wind howls
across my cabin door

I light protective fire
to stave away the night

and keep the storm at bay
until the dawning light

above my humble dream
a swirl of light confounds

as sparks and stars unite
where piety abounds
