An Ode To You Poem by Philip Baker

An Ode To You

She came to me under cold, frosted skies
There was warmth in her laughter there was love in her eyes
She walked with me then, through the white snowflake streets
We sang songs to each other in the gas-fired heat
Of our old white-washed cottage down the leafy old lane
We dreamt of our leaving the cold and the rain.
So we flew out together to Ionia blue
To a small Grecian isle with a paradise view
Bougainvillea walls and crystalline sand
We knew at that moment we needed other lands
So through misery
And cold, acid tears
We flew south again, through the clouds of our fear
And through heartache
And gunmetal sky
She waited for me. She stood by my side
Until evening, in the emerald inn
When she brightened my day with the strength of her will
And she carried me. The length of the land
Through bitter recrimination and a vision so bland
Once more into paradise, a spectrum of blue
Again enriching my live with her love so true
And so now when she comes to me
It’s ‘neath sapphire skies
With warmth in her laughter and love her eyes.
