An Ode To A Snail Poem by Tony Mushrow

An Ode To A Snail

I saw a snail this morning,
I bet he never knew,
How close he came to being,
Just snail goo on my shoe.

He went along, leaving a trail,
his house upon his back.
How brave snails are to take that risk,
or is it brains they lack.

He made his way, quite happily,
of course he couldn’t rush,
So in case someone trod on him,
I put him in a bush.

It made me think of not long ago,
looking down upon my plate.
Six big snails looked back at me,
one could have been his mate.

Or that xmas eve when I was ten,
there was a knock upon the door,
I opened it and in the snow,
there was a snail upon the floor.
I do regret what I did next,
I kicked him off the matt.
He knocked again twelve months from then,
and said “was there any need for that”.

So if your ever out just walking,
and see a snail across your path,
Just remember my last joke,
and it might give you a laugh.

The end (but not for the snail)

Brilliant. My kind of poem. The penultimate verse cracked me up.
