An Iconic Hero Like Mr. Nelson Mandela Poem by Hebert Logerie

An Iconic Hero Like Mr. Nelson Mandela

An iconic Hero like Mr. Nelson Mandela will never die.
His image, his style, his flamboyance, his persona,
His determination, his charm, his intelligence, his charisma,
His pride, his resiliency… will stay with me until I die.
I can go on, and on…Mr. Mandela was the Father of my generation.
As He passed on to the other side of the horizon,
His indelible legacy and his smile will live forever.
Mr. Nelson Mandela was the last of my Heroes,
The last Martyr, the last Great Man of High Honor,
Who knew how to suffer. A Man who was not afraid to lose: toes,
Hands, eyes, legs and important organs for the struggle,
For fighting and ultimately defeating the Apartheid regime.
At the same time, He knew how to keep his heart and soul
Strong, defiant, and invincible. He was the Leader of the Team.
The Man who was relentless, who would not step back
When facing the hellish and retrograde system of inequality,
Which existed in South Africa. Mr. Mandela had an amazing impact
On all branches of the tree of racism, although a gigantic piece
Of that amorphous cancer is still roaming in today’s society.
Mr. Mandela does not want us to cry; He wants us to be strong,
And resilient to fight for the poor, the disadvantage, and the weak among
Us. I will not cry. In life and in death, Mr. Mandela inspires me
To not be afraid to fail, to not be fearless in front of the daily firing squad,
To succeed regardless, to love mankind, even the creeps that are not part of the quad,
To be better and stronger, and to finally dreaming of living in Peace.
His strength will stay with us; his soul will always be with us.
With the blessings of the Almighty, in my life, He will be a force,
Which will energize my willingness to disregard the fascist racists.
