An Honourable Exile Poem by Mehta Hasmukh Amathaal

An Honourable Exile

Rating: 5.0

It is great tragedy if you have to leave the country
You may be charged with sedition or staging mutiny
You might be termed as terrorist or person non-grata
Your photos are displayed to main entry points with bio-data

In all such sense you are debarred from entering
There may be high alerts for your cornering
The state is afraid of unrest in all parts of the states
You might be gunned down even at the gates

In cases of out laws, it is welcome step and desired
The ban against economic offenders is also admired
There is red corner notice to nab them from wherever they are
There hide out is made known even if they fled away very far

These are compulsory exile steps meant at avoiding the sabotage
The divisive forces may come out in open and take advantage
Some of the criminals are also debarred from one state to another and expelled
Their design to wreck the law and order situation is stubbornly repelled

The person who is involving against the state is expelled from the country
His presence in state is considered as threat to national boundary
He is immediate threat to national security and territorial integrity
They have been sent away to other countries who offer them their nationality

When countries were under slavery, the freedom fighters were waging war
They were handcuffed and put in jails or send to exile
They had no other option but to fight for freedom for a while
They had all the miseries and tortures devoid of smile

For them exile meant a safe refuge to raise the banner
It was help from host country to fight still further
They are considered exiles but prevented from any armed struggle
They have to confine to the policies and not to create any trouble

It is not bed of roses for them but still a comfortable zone
They may be undesirable and unwanted but still very prone
Nobody appreciates their presence on their soil
The locals attack on them but many times foiled

History speaks for itself for such freedom fighters
So may people support those including writers?
It is struggle for countrymen who are under foreign domain
If whole hearted support is not given to them then their struggle will go in vain

How many could escape before going into exile?
Many fall victims to state torture and killed
Lucky most survived and preferred an exile
The country may get freedom bringing back honor and smile
