An Emotional Outflow - Poem by Venkateswaran Krishnan Sreenivasan

My mind is inundated by the floodtide of grief
I wish it be transient and brief
Just to wash away the cobwebs of darkness and sorrow
For a brighter dawn tomorrow

My darling is languishing in languor of her nerve
And I am anguishing with loss of verve
My sail boat sans stern light is caught in a storm
Amidst creeks and reefs far from my home

A burnt out lamp I am with a flickering glow
All fuel dried up by the hot air blow
Shriveled and dry like parchment preserved
The fag end of a life undeserved

Pleasure and pain, sorrow and mirth
Are cohabitants in our journey on earth
Like changing seasons, they vanish in a moment
Steadfast and composed, I suffer this torment

May God be my guard to save me from peril
And shield me from the devil
Protect me from thoughts and deeds evil
To complete this journey at my will
